BREAKING: Uli Stielike sacked

The KFA Technical Committee has announced in a press conference that Uli Stielike has been sacked.

Committee Chair Lee Yong-soo announced the decision of the committee composed of high-ranking KFA officials whose purpose it is to oversee the success of the men’s national team.

Lee also announced that all members of the committee, including himself, have resigned their posts.

Stielike’s record with the KNT was 25-5-8, with 66 goals scored and 28 goals conceded. It’s the best win percentage since any manager since Jang Kyung-hwan, in 1979.

The high point of his tenure will include the Asian Cup final appearance and the East Asian Cup victory, both in 2015.

However, the squad’s latest struggles in World Cup qualifying, including defeats to Iran, Qatar and China, as well as an uninspiring draw against Syria and several poor home wins, should remain as major asterisks to his statistically impressive record.

Stielike’s tenure of the KNT – at 2 years, 9 months – means he is statistically the longest consecutively serving manager of the Korean national team in history.

And yet how much we’ve regressed. Full obituary to follow.

  1. So who’s running soccer in Korea? EVERYONE is tired of polishing brass on the Titanic and finding lifeboats? They’re just leaving the animals to run the zoo?
