Cardiff close to Premier League promotion

It could be bedlam tonight in south Wales as Cardiff City FC is on the verge of joining Swansea as the 2nd Welsh club to join in the fun of English Premier League. A win or draw against Charlton Athletic at Cardiff City Stadium this evening (8 pm in Wales / 3pm US EST/ 4am Korea Time) would send the entire city in a state of frenzied euphoria. They have not appeared in top flight football since 1962.

Fun fact: CJay, one of the Tavern’s earliest contributors brought this to my attention:

If they gain promotion on Tuesday, it will be on the same day they were last promoted to the top tier (16th April 1960).

Kim Bo-Kyung might have tried his luck in a circuitous route to the Premiership, but whatever he saw before officially transferring over from Cerezo Osaka back in July – he’s hit the jackpot in joining the most dominant team in the Championship. They’ve hardly faltered, and they’ve maintained the top of the table lead throughout most of the season. Kim has battled and carved his way into a starting role in the central midfield – a position he had played previously in the J League. Since April 1st, he’s started and been brilliant for as Cardiff’s starting XI in the games since.

Even if they do not get automatic promotion tonight, their entry into the Premiership is pretty much secured, so it’s a matter of when – not if.  Exciting times, good luck Bluebirds!
