K League Classic: Round 18 Round-Up

All 14 K League Classic teams played on Saturday, which saw a new league leader emerge. Who was it and how did it happen? More after the jump.

Chunnam Dragons 1 FC Seoul 2

Chunnam took the lead through Jeon Hyeon-Chul, but two late strikes for Seoul, by Kim Jin-Kyu (86′) and Kim Joo-Young (90′) saw all three points go to the capital club. For the first time in a long time (since round 1), FC Seoul moved into the top half of the table.

Busan IPark 1 Jeonbuk Motors 2

Another club on the rise, is Jeonbuk, who have now won 3 of 4 since the return of Choi Kang-Hee. Things looked good for Busan who scored in the 3rd minute through Fagner. But, goals from Lee Dong-Gook and recent transfer rumor, Leonardo, settled the matter.

Gangwon FC 1 Gyeongnam FC 1

A rather stale battle at the bottom. A late goal from Bosancic ensured that Gyeongnam stays out of the bottom 3 for another week, and that Gangwon stays there.

Jeju United 1 Suwon Samsung 2

In a slight upset (due to form), Suwon managed to win on their trip to Seogwipo. Jeju took a very early lead with a Maranhao goal. But in the trend this week, goals from Radoncic and Cho Young-Tae took the points to Suwon.

Seongnam Ilhwa 2 Pohang Steelers 2

Pohang took a two goal lead into the break, but two second half strikes by Kim Dong-Sub and Lee Jong-Won saw the points shared. It also saw another match were Pohang has dropped points, which raises the question further whether they have the depth to make a sustained title run, particularly when considering the last third of the season will be against all top half teams.

Incheon United 2 Daegu FC 1

More woes for Daegu who failed to pick up any points on their trip north. Incheon went ahead just before the half, but Daegu leveled shortly after the re-start. A penalty, converted by Diogo, saw the three points stay at home.

Ulsan Hyundai 2 Daejeon Citizens 0

Daejeon remains firmly rooted to the floor, as UIsan comfortably picked up three points and moved to the top of the table for the first time this season. Choi Bo-Kyung and Kim Shin-Wook both scored for the new league leaders.
