Korea advances to U20 World Cup Round of 16

Korea had to wait more than 24 hours to see if the team squeaked into the U20 World Cup Round of 16 after a dismal group match performance against Nigeria last Thursday. The Taeguk Warriors lost that match 0-1, only registering 2 shots on goal the entire match. They were outhustled/outmuscled; the team seemed rattled by the Nigerians challenges which disrupted their passing game. Nevertheless, a previous group win against Cuba and a comeback draw with Portugal was enough to earn the Koreans a 3rd place spot (this tournament’s version of a wild card spot). They are scheduled to play Columbia on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2 pm US EST/ 3 am July 4th Korea time.

More on this later – my son has a pickup football match in a few minutes…
