Key Match
Arsenal vs Cardiff City – Last weekend we got an interesting “Korean derby” between Kim Bo-Kyung and Ki Sung-Yueng. Could we see another today between Kim Bo-Kyung and Park Chu-Young? Probably not the way things seem to be at Arsenal. Despite starting striker Oliver Giroud being out with an ankle problem, Park Chu-Young would seem to be a long shot. Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner will likely get the nod. In his pre-match presser, boss Arsene Wenger said that the three that he was considering to start up top would be between Bendtner, Lukas Podolski, and Theo Wolcott, although the English forward is also in doubt due to shoulder injury. So, could Park make the bench? Possible, but Wenger seems to prefer the youngsters Chuba Akpom and Serge Gnabry. Park’s best, and hopefully last chance, would seem to be next weekend when they meet Spurs in an FA Cup north London derby.

On the other side, Kim Bo-Kyung had a solid match against Sunderland, showing signs of his attacking and link up qualities. He faded a bit as the game went on, and was subbed. It will be interesting to see how the caretakers utilize him. Under Mackay, Kim was largely a role player against the bigger sides, with more physical, defensive-types preferred to help clog the middle. Traditional wisdom would indicate that Cardiff will likely go a similar route against the league leaders, but with Arsenal nursing a number of injuries down the middle, perhaps they’ll see this as an opportunity to steal a point at the Emirates.
