Midweek Roundup March 17-18

Son Heung-Min had some looks at goal in Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League tie at Atletico Madrid, but eventual heartbreak at the Vicente Cauldron, K-League clubs got 2 wins on Tuesday in the Asian Champion League, did Suwon and Seoul make it 4 for 4 today? Midweek Roundup next:

Bayer Leverkusen started brightly with Son getting in a decent shot from a rebound, but it was blocked. Later in the 1st half, he was in the box after a brilliant through ball to him, but his first touch was too heavy and was swallowed by by Atletico’s keeper (who then pulled his hamstring and had to be substituted). Atletico would get a deflection goal to draw even on aggregate goal. While Son had some decent passes to keep the ball moving, in the 2nd half he wasn’t as effective and was subbed out in the 77th.  Both played through extra time. Leverkusen would lose 4-3 in a penalty shootout.  They just missed going through to the final 8 in the Champions League (2002 being the last time they advanced past the round of 16).

In the English Championship, Kim Bo-Kyung and Wigan hosted Watford on Tuesday: Wigan would go down 0-2. Kim played the full 90 minutes.

  1. FYI Roy, the highlights for Nam Tae-hee are wrong, that’s their game on MD2 against the Saudi champs AL Nassr (1-1 draw). They beat Bunyodkor (Uzbekistan) on NTH’s penalty this MD to put them into third. I haven’t seen those highlights floating around.

  2. Jang Hyun-Soo was injured in practice the day after the Seongnam game and will beo ut for about 2 months. Expect a injury replacement announcement for the KNT soon. More info within the next 24 hours in the KPA post. 🙂
