Very Short Weekend Listings – September 6th-7th 2014

This is going to be a very short post, just three things to go over. AFC U-16 C’ship, Asian Games friendly and some K-League.

First off, the AFC U-16 Championship takes place early tomorrow morning for those of you on the East Coast, 3am ET, 4pm KST, that’s September 6th. South Korea takes on Oman, but Lee Seung-Woo is suspended for the first game, which could make things a little interesting. The game will be in Nonthaburi, Thailand, and South Korea got Thailand, Oman and Malaysia in their group. KBSN will carry the game, but I don’t live in Korea, so kindly double check. Jae jumping in with some “in Korea’ clarifications. The game kicks at 6PM KST. But, what else starts at 6PM? That’s right! Baseball, so KBSN will not show the game live. They will however air the game on delay beginning at 10:30PM (in it’s entirety). I’m assuming they will push the start back should the baseball game run longer than expected.

Lee Gwang-Jong’s U-23 Asian Games team played a friendly against Daejeon Korail, which they won 2-0. I hope they didn’t go all out to get that kind of result…

And there’s K-League fixtures to mention…

Jeonbuk-Sangju: Jeonbuk try to avoid falling in to second place hosting Sangju, but they’ll be without Lee Dong-Gook, who is, of course, on international duty. (Sat, 3am ET, 4pm KST).
Seongnam-Incheon: Seongnam try to break a recent slide against Incheon, who’s last result was a resounding 3-0 win over Busan. (Sat, 4am ET, 5pm KST)
Jeju-Jeonnam: Two teams trying to get back into the title race before it’s too late, Jeonnam travels to Seogwipo on a three game winning streak. (Sat, 6am ET, 7pm KST)
Ulsan-Gyeongnam: Ulsan are battling to keep their spot in the top half, while Gyeongnam try to move out of relegation territory, at least for now. I believe Kim Seung-Gyu and Kim Shin-Wook are on Asian Games prep. (Sun, 4am ET, 5pm KST)
Pohang-Seoul: The Steelers can move into a first with a win, and a Jeonbuk loss, while Seoul can move into the top tier if the Tigers drop their game against Gyeongnam. Will there be vengeance for Pohang after their ACL exit at the hands of the Seoulites, or will Choi Yong-Soo’s XI prevail at the Steelyard? (Sun, 6am ET, 7pm KST)

Over in the second tier, Bucheon and Chungju take part in the battle of the basement dwellers, Daegu hosts Goyang Hi, and Gwangju welcome the Police squad. (All 3 fixtures, Saturday, 6am ET, 7pm KST). On Sunday, league leaders Daejeon travels to Gangwon, while Suwon City travels to Anyang. (Sunday, 6am ET, 7pm KST).

Excellent game today, a good all-round team performance against decent opposition. Congrats to Lee Dong-Gook on his 100th cap and brace to go with it today. I’ll have a preview up prior to Monday’s friendly with Uruguay.

Time to settle in for more baseball. My Blue Jays are on a push for the last wild card spot. Gots to go – Jalgayo!
