Son Heung-Min with a brace!

I’ll let Jinseok do his weekend roundup thing tomorrow or the beginning of next week, but I just had to post a couple of GIF’s with Son Heung-Min’s 3rd and 4th Bundesliga goals this season, which he scored earlier today against Stuttgart. Son just missed an 11 minute hat-trick, hitting the crossbar later, and despite Bellarabi making it 3-0 Leverkusen (with SHM getting an assist), B04 crumbled in the second half and ultimately Bayer were lucky to escape with an exciting 3-3 draw. Son was guilty of some poor marking on the Stuttgart equalizer. Anyhow, here’s the goals – remember, Jinseok will post his Weekend Roundup, updating us on all Korean Players in Europe in the coming days. Enjoy the rest of the your weekend, and Jalgayo from Tavern Studio Canada.

  1. Awesome offensive performance… but has Son always been a relatively poor defender? I think 1 of the set pieces that led to a goal was from a Son foul, & another goal was by a guy Son was supposed 2 b marking. Is this sumthin he needs 2 really work on? Offense is vital, ofc keep that trending up, but piss-poor defending could b what does u in (the Son mis-mark was the tying goal I believe :/)

    • He’s never been a good defending wide midfielder, but I feel he’s gotten a bit worse as his offensive output has increased. His defensive workrate seems to have dropped. He used to track back regularly and try hard, but now it seems a bit infrequent.

I imagine his poor defensive work was noted by Schmidt, and if he continues to make costly mistakes it could hurt him in the long run. Schmidt’s pressing system requires all the players to work hard and if Son isn’t doing his part then Schmidt may be forced to make a change.
