Week listings and previews for our Korean Players Abroad 12-13th December

Koo Europa League

Week listings and previews for our Korean Players Abroad. Europa League was on this week, love the Europa League as many of our Koreans play in it. This week’s games were quite exciting, Park Joo-Ho finally started for Borussia Dortmund (even though Borussia Dortmund lost), Son Heung-Min provided two assists, Augsburg Hong Jeong-Ho returns from his injury and scores a goal. Additionally, with today’s win Augsburg qualifies for next round of Europa League in their first time of entering the competition. Match to watch this week: Suk Hyun Jun’s Vitoria Setubal vs Benfica.

Sunday 9:30 AM Koo Ja-Cheol Augsburg Schalke
Sunday 11:00 AM Son Heung-Min Tottenham Hotspur Newcastle
Sunday 11:30 AM Park Joo-Ho Borussia Dortmund Eintracht Frankfurt

Kim Jin-Su has been a regular starter these last couple of weeks, he should start against Hannover.

Lee Chung-Yong didn’t even make squad list last week, I expect a bench appearance for him this week against Southampton. Should Chungy make a move elsewhere? Please comment below.

Yun Suk-Young wasn’t featured last week against Reading, with a new manager I expect a bench appearance or out of squad list this week.

So Gary Monk got sacked, we all saw it coming. What will happened to Swansea now? Swansea is facing Manchester City this week. This won’t be easy for them, as Ki Sung-Yeung is a vital player I expect him to start.

Ryu Seung-Woo was left out in both league game and Champions League. Everyone knows Leverkusen is struggling a lot these days, with tensions rising (wink wink Chicharito and Bellarabi). I expect Ryu will not make squad list this week too.

Suk Hyun-Jun scored his 6th and 7th goal for Vitoria Setubal last week, Suk is in great form. He should start against Benfica.

I didn’t expect Hong Jeong-Ho to be back from his injury so quickly, he was subbed on against Partizan Belgrade. As soon as he came on, he scored Augsburg’s first goal and made a super save. Good to see Hong back, he is important to Augsburg. Now we can enjoy more Europa League matches with Hong, Ji and Koo in them.

I expect Ji Dong-Won to either start or to be on the bench against Schalke this week. This will be quite challenging for Augsburg as they need a win or draw to stay out of relegation position.

Koo Ja-Cheol has been a regular starter, he should start against Schalke.

Son Heung-Min started as striker in Harry Kane’s position today against Monaco. He also provided two assists but with Lamela performing so well I expect Sonny to start or make bench appearance against Newcastle.

Park Joo-Ho started in the Europa League against POAK Thessaloniki, according who Whoscored he was their second best player of the match after Mat Hummels. Good to see Park getting some proper game time. I expect a bench appearance for him this week against Frankfurt. On the side note, Cha Du-Ri recently visited his former club Eintracht Frankfurt this week. Maybe Cha will be watching this game.

  1. I might be wrong but I do think Chungy will get some playing time at some point in the season. He is not exactly getting treated unfairly. It is unfornate that he is playing on the squad that is inundated with talented attacking mid fielders. It would be interesting to what happens during the January transfer window. Swansea probably can use his services because all their wingers are in abysimal form.

Son is either scoring goals or making assists. He did not score a goal since his return from injury but has been an intergral part of Tottenham attack. I just hope he doesn’t put too much pressure on himself. I think he is playing well but I also think he needs to get little selfish once or twice a game when the situation warrents it.

I have been a big critic of Koo on KNT but I cannot deny that he works hard everytime I watch him play for Augsburg.

I like to see someone notices Yun’s potential in EP. He is fast and can be physical. He just needs somebody to give him some confidence i.e Gus Poyat with Ki.

Finally, I like to see Ki picked up by a bigger club in EP. He deserves to play with players that can make something happen with his metronomic distributions other than the current group of knuckleheads that can’t string two passes together. Unless some minor miracle happens, Swansea is on the way to relegation.

    • Hey Sun,
thanks for your comment. I agree with you, I doubted Koo Ja-Cheol on the national team too. But he’s doing great at Augsburg. Good to see him start every week too. Yeah, so many people have high expectations on Son. I do wish he scores some goals too but I hope the pressure doesn’t get to him. I remember in the Bundesliga he had many goal droughts. Thanks for dropping by Sun, hope you hear from you again.
