Weekend Results (10/18-20)

So, some family came over last weekend (and stayed all weekend), so I wasn’t able to watch anything. So, no details or reviews, but here are the results from all the matches.

Friday

Son Heung-Min was an unused substitute in Bayer Leverkusen’s bizarre match against Hoffenheim. Leverkusen won 2-1 after the now infamous “phantom goal” by Stefan Kiessling. Hoffenheim are asking the league for a replay.

Saturday

Park Joo-Ho started on the bench for Mainz’s match against Bayern Munich. Park came on in the 54th minute in place for Bo Svensson. Bayern won 4-1.

Lee Chung-Yong also started on the bench for Bolton in their match against Sheffield Wednesday. Lee would also be a second half sub, coming on in the 58th minute for Liam Feeney. Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1.

Kim Bo-Kyung continued the trend of Korean internationals not starting. Kim came off the bench in the 56th minute for Gary Medel in Cardiff’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea.

Yoon Suk-Young is back to not making the 18 for QPR.

Ji Dong-Won and Ki Sung-Yueng both missed out on Sunderland’s 4-0 loss to Swansea. Ki was not available as he is at Sunderland on loan from Swansea, and Ji just isn’t good enough/had the long trip.

Sunday

Park Ji-Sung remains sidelined by the leg/foot injury he suffered a few weeks ago. Some thought he might be back for PSV’s match against Groningen, but he wasn’t. Groningen won that match, 1-0.

Kim Young-Kiu continues to play with the Almeria reserve team (Almeria B in the Segunda B Group 4). He did not make it to their last game, a 1-1 draw with Cacereno. Kim’s last action was the week before in Almeria B’s 3-0 loss to La Roda.

Koo Ja-Cheol did not play for Wolfsburg in their match against Augsburg. Koo is still suffering from the leg injury he suffered during the match against Mali. In the same match, Hong Jeong-Ho made his first league start for Augsburg. Wolfsburg came out winners, 2-1.

Also, on a non-European note, Pohang Steelers won the Korean FA Cup this Saturday, defeating former national team coach Choi Kang-Hee and Jeonbuk Motors on penalties. The score ended 1-1 at the end of 120 minutes. (I believe) Pohang won the shootout 4-3. With the win, Pohang has secured a spot in next year’s Asian Champions League.
