Second consecutive win for our Taeguk Ladies. I didn’t watch the match but I will do my best to fill in as much details as I can. The South Korean Women’s team won 2-1 against Japan, the finalist of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. With yesterday’s win against Japan I think we have a good chance of winning the 2015 EAFF East Asian Cup.
What a confidence builder for our Taeguk Ladies winning against one of the best Women’s football teams in the world. As you can see above Japan is ranked 4th in the world by FIFA whereas we are ranked 17th. We have met 25 times, 3 wins, 8 draws and 14 losses. We won the EAFF East Asian Cup once in 2005 whereas Japan won twice in 2008 and 2010.
Match Report:
Japan took the lead at 29 minutes, goal by Emi Nakajima when the Korean defenders failed to clear a cross. Our Taeguk Ladies upped the pressure with a equalizing goal in the 54th minute by Captain Cho So-Hyun, who stole the ball in midfield and fired past the diving keeper Ayaka Yamashita. Cho then dedicated her goal celebration to fellow teammate Shim Seo-Yeon who was ruled out of the competition with a torn knee ligament sustained during the match against China.
With the Taeguk Ladies often sloppy in their own zone, Japan kept knocking on the door without much to show for its work. Yuri Kawamura fired it just wide off the left post in the 71st minutes, and five minutes later, Mai Kyokawa curled one from the top of the arc and barely missed the bottom right hand corner. When the match seemed headed for a seemingly inevitable draw, South Korea earned a free kick near the left edge of the box. Jeon Ga-Eul then stepped up and struck it past Yamashita, completing a stunning comeback. Video Link to Jeon Ga-Eul’s goal.
