J-League Roundup & Prospects in Europe

Unlike other weekly weekend updates/roundups, J-league roundups will be sporadic.

J-League 1

Teams Players
Sagan Tosu Kim Min-Woo, Kim Min-Hyeok, Baek Sung-Dong, Choi Seung-Kuen
Gamba Osaka Oh Jae-Seok
Kashima Antlers Hwang Seok-Ho
Kashiwa Reysol Kim Chang-Soo
Vissel Kobe Jung Woo-Young

Sagan Tosu vs Gamba Osaka – Game that featured 5 Koreans, Baek Sung-Dong shined the brightest by scoring the game winner.  Sagan Tosu defeated defending Champion & treble winner Gamba Osaka 1-0.

Kashima Antlers vs Shonana Bellmare – Rough start to the season for Kashima and Hwang Seok-Ho.  HSH played the full 90 mins but his poor marking at the end cost the team as Ailson headed the game winner for 2-1 Shonan Bellmare win.

Kashiwa Reysol vs Vegalta Sendai – Kim Chang-Soo played the full 90 mins in 1-1 draw.

Kawasaki Frontale vs Vissel Kobe – Jung Woo-Young, captain of Vissel Kobe, played the full 90 mins in 2-2 draw.

J-league 2

Teams Players
Cerezo Osaka Kim Jin-Hyeon
Consadole Sapporo Gu Sung-Yun
Kyoto Sanga Kim Nam-Il, Hwang Jin-Sung
V-Varen Nagasaki Lee Yong-Jae, Cho Min-Woo

Cerezo Osaka vs Omiya Ardija – Kim Jin-Hyeon, current #1 GK for Korea and Cerezo Osaka played the full 90 mins in 3-1 win.

Consadole Sapporo vs V-Varen Nagasaki – Gu Sung-Yun should be unfamiliar to many (if not to everyone). Recently selected to represent KNT U-22/23 team for Olympic Qualifiers, he played the full 90 mins against Lee Yong-Jae (won gold at Asian Games).  Nagasaki won 1-0 thanks to an assist from Lee Yong-Jae.

Ahh, and here’s a pic of cool TIFO from Consadole Sapporo supporters.

Kyoto Sanga vs Jubilo Iwata – Kim Nam-Il played full 90 mins in 2-0 loss.

  1. Super post! Kim Min-woo I’m somewhat familiar due to his KNT caps. Baek Sung-Dong, honestly, I haven’t seen him since the 2012 Olympics – he was a formerly w/ Watford youth program – How do you rate him and the Koreans at Sagan Tosu?

    • Kim Min-Hyeok is the player I like the most from 4 Koreans at Sagan Tosu.

Baek Sung-Dong? Hmm, I understand he has his fans (including the current coach of Sagan Tosu who seems to have a lot of faith in him based on his comments…. they know each other from Jubilo Iwata), but I’m not one of them. Looked poor or below avg at Jubilo Iwata..

Choi Seung-Keun is a bit of unknown for me. Didn’t play much under Yoon Jung-Hwan but doing okay as LB so far (new position for him.. his natural position is defensive midfielder).
