K League Quiniela: Round 2

So, it wasn’t the best of starts for the Tavern at the quiniela as I went a rather piddly 2 of 6 (darn you Suwon and Jeju!). But, onwards and upwards and all that. We shan’t let a poor round get us down! We’re back for round 2 of the K League 1 quiniela! Remember to get involved here in the comments or on Twitter (@Taeguk_warrior). 1 = home win; X = draw; 2 = away win.

1. Incheon United vs Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors: 2. (Saturday, March 10, 14:00)

Easiest(?) match of the round to predict. Jeonbuk looks as good as advertised while Incheon will probably be where they usually are – near the bottom but somehow surviving. The green machine rolls on here.

2. Daegu FC vs Suwon Samsung Bluewings: 2. (Saturday, March 10, 14:00)

Both teams looking to bounce back from disappointing round 1 showings. Daegu got shelled by Pohang (0-3) while Suwon fell to a surprisingly decent Jeonnam side (1-2). This one feels tricky as Suwon also was held to a 1-1 draw midweek with Shanghai Shenhua (admittedly I did not watch that one). Was the positive start an illusion or is this just a little bump to start things? I’ll go with the latter and pick the visitors to pick up all 3 points.

3. Gyeongnam FC vs Jeju United: 2. (Saturday, March 10, 14:00)

Gyeongnam looked pretty impressive in the their return to the K League 1 with a 3-1 win over Sangju in the opener in Changwon. Brazilian striker Marcao scored a hattrick, and I would be tempted to give Gyeongnam a decent shot at getting a result against a Jeju side struggling for goals a bit (yes I know they put three past Evergrande midweek in the ACL), but since Marcao then proceeded to get himself sent off, we’ll back the island side in this one.

4. Ulsan Hyundai vs Sangju Sangmu: 1. (Saturday, March 10, 16:00)

Despite their fairly high quality squad, Sangju underwhelmed in their opener (the aforementioned 1-3 loss to Gyeongnam). Won’t be any easier this week as they travel to Ulsan and take on a solid looking Horangi side. Perhaps the midweek 2-2 draw with Shanghai SIPG will have sapped the home side a bit, but they should still have enough to see off the army boys.

5. Jeonnam Dragons vs Pohang Steelers: X. (Sunday, March 11, 14:00)

Two sides that did impress in the opening round. Jeonnam’s win was more impressive, but Pohang seems like the better side. Hard to pick though, so we’ll settle for a draw in the first POSCO derby of the season.

6. FC Seoul vs Gangwon FC: X. (Sunday, March 11, 16:00)

Seoul showed some resilience in snagging an opening round draw in Jeju, but it’s still hard to see where the goals will come from this season. Park Chu-young (who I do like) is not likely to be the answer. That being said, I think Seoul will be hard to break down, and a point for each seems a good choice.

Last Week: 2/6 (33%)

Overall: 2/6 (33%)
