Kim Bo-Kyung assists in Cardiff’s 2-1 win over Barnsley, Bluebirds tops Championship table

November 24, 2012

Kim Bo-Kyung put in a 90 minute shift today for Cardiff and the Bluebirds win on the road against Barnsley. The victory puts Cardiff in the pole position of 1st place in the N-Power Championship table again, going a point above Crystal Palace. He made impact on the game, especially in the first half when he set up a run resulting in a corner. The set piece resulted in a Ben Nugent header into the back of the net and with that Cardiff was up 1-0. Aron Gunnarsson doubled the score 6 minutes after the halftime break.  Cardiff could’ve put the game away 18 minutes later as Rudy Gestede’s shot was blocked by Barnsley’s keeper, with the rebound right to Kimbo in the box and an open net in front of him – he missed his target wide of the post. Barnsley’s Jacob Mellis made things a bit more interesting by cutting the lead in half in the 76th minute. Simon Lapin received a red card for his second booking and Cardiff were suddenly down to 10 men with 5 minutes of stoppage time to go. Cardiff hang on to win.

Meanwhile Lee Chung-Yong was in the 18 man roster for Bolton, they drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion, but he did not feature in the match.

Try as QPR might, they still can’t get a win. And they almost did it against Manchester City of all teams, at Old Trafford no less. After an impressive scoreless draw in the first half, QPR went up 1-0 with Jamie Mackie scoring a devastating goal early in the 2nd half. As soon as you can ask, ‘How will they blow this?’ QPR conceded 3 goals in 8 short minutes. It’s hard to say if it was nerves, Alex Ferguson substitution of Chicharito and Anderson in, or QPR interim manager Mark Bowen subbing in Anton Ferdinand that was the blame or the spark that led to the flurry of scoring. Regardless, the outcome was the predicted one as Harry Rednapp, set to take over the reins of QPR tomorrow, left 4 minutes before the end, having seen enough. Still, if you take away 8 minutes of action, most would say there might be a semblance of a team to work with to claw out of the relegation zone, especially when you factor Fabio, Bosingwa and Park Ji-Sung all didn’t take part in the match (Park still absent due to a lingering knee injury).

Count Sunderland as another foot of the table team that blew it today. They had their chance to cobble a draw or a win against upstarts West Bromich Albion. Naw. A howler and a last second stoppage time goal later, Sunderland is your loser today, 4-2. Ji Dong-Won not in the 18 man roster. He is set to go on loan to Augsburg in January, the terms  of the agreement is still being worked out.

Over in the Netherlands, Suk Hyun Jun did not appear in the 18 man roster for Groningen’s match at RKC Waalwijk. Groningen won 1-0.

Tomorrow:Swansea’s Ki Sung-Yeung is expected back from hamstring injury to clash at home against Liverpool. Will he go head to head against his football idol Steven Gerrard?  Koo Ja-Cheol is also expected to suit up for Augsburg tomorrow against Gladbach. Park Chu-Young may be in action for Celta Vigo on Monday.  Have a great  Saturday night, the Tavern will be back shortly.
