Some surprising results from the last group matches in the Asian Champions League…

Tavern Owner interjecting with a few more results:

The Suwon JS Cup U18 Tournament concluded on Sunday and Korea fell 0-1 to France. Both Lee Seung-Woo and Paik Seung-Ho started, however Paik was struggling with his out of position role in the midfield -while Lee was unable to contribute much, possibly too isolated. Both subbed out at halftime.  Soon after, France went ahead -but honestly looked the better side throughout the game overall. There was a definite class gulf between the sides – however near the 78th minute, Korea had an equalizing goal disallowed for offsides (though replays wasn’t too convincing that it was the correct call). Korea re-organized and looked more solid for the last 10 minutes of the game, Kim Dae-Hwan among others that looked impressive.

Tuesday in the Asian Champions League, some incredible games -particularly FC Seoul v Kashima.  With Western Sydney ahead against Guangzhou Evergrande – the Australians only needed a draw between Seoul and Kashima to advance.  Seoul had been struggling in domestic form, particularly in the goal scoring category, but surprised everyone, coming back from a blown 2-1 lead, about to crash out with a 2-2 draw but in the waning moments of stoppage time, Molina managed to get space in the area and rocketed a shot into the back of the net. Seoul advances to the round of 16 miraculously with a 3-2 scoreline and left Western Sydney with a bit of wandering to do in the outback.

and here’s the photo finish look at the table for Group H

Suwon drew 1-1 with Beijing Guoan, advances from Group G as the runners up.

Seongnam lost 2-1 away at Gamba Osaka, but still advance from Group F as runners up, also razor thin margin to advance:

Finally Jeonbuk with a comfortable 4-1 win over Shandong Luneng (see Lee Jae-Sung’s goal – good stuff!).

Jeonbuk also advance from their group…. meaning:

All 4 K-League sides advance to the Round of 16 in the ACL!  2 J-League sides go on as do a pair of Chinese Super League teams.  Not too shabby.

Here’s the draw:

We’ll try to elaborate more on some of these results mentioned above but Tavern owner on the run. But didn’t want to forget, a great result for Ji So-Yun and Chelsea Ladies. With 6 minutes remaining, Ji knocked in the only goal of the FA Cup semifinal clash with Manchester City and will play in the title FA Cup Women’s match at Wembly Stadium on August 1.

Take a look at the highlights [update: fixed so now you can watch highlights].

Extra: nearly forgot, Nam Tae-Hee was attacked yesterday post match. His side advances in the ACL but before FT, a quarrel between the two players continued into the tunnel.  The offending player has been punished – more details later….

Tavern Owner back again…in case you missed this, last Saturday Augsburg drew 0-0 with Koln, but the cleansheet for Augsburg apparently had Hong Jeong-Ho to largely thank. His strong defensive performance at CB was enough to make one publication’s European best XI

of course, with 2 missed headers, Koln’s cleansheet will have to thank Hong for that as well.  Still, more positives than negatives here.

Extra Extra:

Seoul E-Land raised a ruckus last weekend, knocking off Suwon FC from their perch (shared with Daegu) at the top of the K-League Challenge. A 5-1 emphatic win, here’s a highlight reel:

잠들기전에 다시 한 번 가슴에 새기는 5eou1 골모음. 한 골 한 골이 베스트 골 후보네요.Here are all 5 goals #SEFC scored against Suwon FC today. Every single goal is ready to get a vote for the best goal of this round.[0:00:41]
