Real Matches? Yes Please!

So, this weekend kicked off some official competitive league and cup matches. Not friendlies. Real, honest to goodness league and cup campaigns, and several of our boys were in on the action.

England – Championship

Bolton 1 Burnley 1

Lee Chung-Yong and Bolton kicked off their second attempt at promotion against Burnley. Lee Chung-Yong started and played the full 90, picking up a booking right at the end.

QPR 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1

No Park Ji-Sung, given his pending move back to PSV. Yoon Suk-Young didn’t start, but he did make the bench at least.

Germany – German Cup

Bayer Leverkusen 6 Lippstadt 1

Son Heung-Min made his competitive debut for Leverkusen from the bench, coming on at the start of the second half. Son also opened his account (around the 6:50 mark) with a nice finish, and provided an assist as well (should have had a second assist, but Keissling skied his tap-in). Could have scored another goal or two, but for some good saves from the Lippstadt keeper.

Park Joo-Ho started for Mainz, and played the full 90. Mainz won their match 2-1.
