Wow, only 2 minutes in the game with Borussia Dortmund, Van der Vaart’s cross finds Son Heung-Min and he headed it past Roman Weindenfeller. He scored last week, becoming the first Korean to score in Europe this season. Since Rafael Van der Vaart came back to his club Hamburg earlier this month, the Son-Van der Vaart connection has been very effective, first in early test matches, and now for real.

First half just ended and B Dortmund gets the equalizer, Ivan Perisic finds the back of the net. If Hamburg can win, they can get out of the relegation zone. They’re 17th in the Bundesliga table right now.  1-1 and Son so far is ballin’ for Hamburg.

UPDATE 10:45am:  Ivo Ilicevic gets go ahead goal, assist by none other than Van der Vaart, 2-1 Hamburg!

UPDATE 10:49 -I can’t keep up -Son Heung-Min scores brace for Hamburg, it’s 3-1 !!!!!!

woops and now it’s 3-2, goal for B Dortmund.  Still Hamburg up and maybe a hat trick for SHM??

—-and back to report Hamburg’s first win in the Bundesliga this season over 5th place Borrusia Dortmund. This gets them out of the relegation zone for the moment and is a huge victory and confidence booster for the northern German team, who has been struggling early this season.

Son appears to be the man of the match, scoring the first as well as the game winner in the  58th minute.  That second goal was a solo effort, Son intercepting a B Dortmund pass centerfield, dribbled it down the side, managed to get near the top of the penalty area and blasted a long but precise strike into the far post corner of the net. Once again, Son is setting the record -he becomes the first Korean to score a brace in top flight european football this season. We’ll see what Park Chu-Young and Ki-Sung Yeung has to say about that as the year unfolds.

The Washington Post/AP reports “Borrusia Dortmund’s 31-match unbeaten run in the German Bundesliga ended with a 3-2 loss to Hamburger SV, preserving Hamburg’s record streak of 36 games set in 1983.”

Stefan Bienkowski ‏@SBienkowski on Twitter keys in some interesting data on Van der Vaart:

Over at BigSoccer Koreans Abroad forum, cappuccino_kid found this link to a Russian version of youtube, highlights of all the goals in today’s match.  That’s not all you’ll find, Jinseokyang at BSK forum brought up a table with a familiar name up in the 3rd spot.

Not too shabby. 수고  SHM.  Gots to go, places to see and things to do, but the Tavern will be back with you later to see what Park Chu-Young is up to over at Celta Vigo. Game is about to be underway at noon EST, and while he is on the bench, KBS is covering the game -it’s expected he will see a bit of La Liga action against Getafe.
