Weekend Roundup 10/22-23: Not Your Usual Suspects

The highlights of this past weekend did not come from SHM or KSY but actually from our Lord and Savior Hwang Heechan (scored a doppelpack) as well as Park Jooho, who is back in action but in noticeably poor form. KSY managed to play a full 90′ under Bradley, JDW notched an assist, KJC played noticeably better than he did before the WCQ’s, and SHJ was rested. More after the jump:

Player, Club, Opponent, Result, Notes
Son Heungmin, Tottenham, @Bournemouth, 0-0 D, 62′
Ji Dongwon, Augsburg, @Freiburg, 2-1 L, 90′
Koo Jacheol, Augsburg, @Freiburg, 2-1 L, 70′
Park Jooho, Dortmund, @Ingolstadt, 3-3 D, 45′
Lee Chungyong, Palace, @Leicester, 1-0 L, bench + 18′
Ki Sungyueng, @Swansea, Watford, 0-0 D, 90′
Hwang Heechan, Red Bull Salzburg, @St Polten, 5-1 W, 65′

Suk Hyun-Jun, Trabzonspor, @Galatasaray, 0-0 D, bench[/tb]

Son unfortunately did not contribute very much against Bournemouth, who set up very strategically against Tottenham and pressed them hard. He didn’t play well, but it’s also true that he didn’t get much service from Eriksen and Lamela, who were noted in the press for having an especially poor game. Of course, the netizens still compiled a good ball-touch video, where it’s pretty apparent that SHM spent a lot of the game either chasing the ball or getting closed down really quickly.

Rather, the big buzz this week first came with Park Jooho, who started in the BL game against Ingolstadt due to a bit of a fullback injury crisis at Dortmund. Considering that he hasn’t played a competitive game in a long time it made sense that PJH would be one of the liabilities on the team, leading him to be subbed out at half time for Christian Pulisic, who came to Dortmund’s rescue and helped them salvage a point thanks to an assist and a last minute goal.

Meanwhile, Hwang HC was handed just his second start of the season. The first time, back in September, he disappointed and was hauled off at halftime. This time, however, he seized his chance and responded with two goals in the first half.

Highlights of the game are available on the official RB Salzburg site:

Meanwhile, after the game HHC signed a contract extension after the game. Did they push through contract talks after the brace or did they plan it all along and it was coincidental that HHC played well this weekend?

Another surprise of the week came from Ki Sungyong, who played his part in a slightly disappointing 0-0 draw to Watford. However, the draw was so promising after all the REALLY bad form Swansea had been through that Wales Online gave almost everyone 7’s or 8’s:

KI SUNG-YUENG 7

Handed a surprise start and gave some suggestions he is ready to play his way back into form. Some rustiness and sluggishness, but far better than has been and showed willingness to bring drive to team.
