Weekend Roundup 11/19-20 + Jeonbuk v. Al-Ain Highlights

First of all I apologize to the Tavern readers who were expecting coverage of the recent U19 team’s tournament last week – currently in my last year of college, my post-grad preparations, research requirements, and final essays are starting to heat up considerably – but do not fear! The tournament, the appointment of Shin Taeyong as U19 boss, the weekend roundup, and a highlight reel of Jeonbuk vs. Al-Ain will all be covered in the next couple of posts.

Player, Club, Opponent, Result, Notes
Son Heungmin, Tottenham, West Ham, 3-2 W, 18′
Ji Dongwon, Augsburg, Hertha, 0-0 D, 90′
Koo Jacheol, Augsburg, Hertha, 0-0 D, not in squad
Lee Chungyong, Palace, Man City, 2-1 L, 9′
Ki Sungyueng, Swansea, @Everton, 1-1 D, 3′
Hwang Heechan, Red Bull Salzburg, Rapid Wien, 2-1 W, not in squad

Suk Hyun-Jun, Trabzonspor, Antalyaspor, 0-1 L, 9′[/tb]

Honestly there isn’t very much to say this week – almost everyone was benched or not included in the squad after the international break. The interesting exception was JDW, who was still called to full time Augsburg duty while KJC was rested completely. Augsburg, half of whose starting XI is injured, managed a 0-0 draw against one of the strongest teams in the Bundesliga this year – not too shabby!

The only noteworthy thing that happened this weekend was Son Heungmin’s assist and penalty draw. Before he came in Tottenham was 2-1 down to West Ham – their miserable winless streak looked to continue. When SHM came in his touches were downright awful, but his cross to Harry Kane in the 89′ just evaded the hands of the goalkeeper giving Kane an easy tap in goal.

In the 91′, SHM won a penalty that sealed the game for Tottenham for them to finally grab a win – their first since October 2nd , in fact.

Meanwhile, Jeonbuk beat Al Ain in the AFC Champions League final 2-1 at the Jeonbuk stadium for a slight edge going into the second leg. Tim and I have compiled yet another Tavern Highlights package for you guys:
