Weekend Roundup 9/26-27: Augsburg is still awesome and CP still isn’t

It was a somewhat decent weekend for us KPA fans – KJC and SHJ scored, KSY finally got back into the Swansea XI, and SHM showed a different side of himself in the 4-1 demolition of Manchester City of all teams. Yet once again, Park Joo Ho and Lee Chung Yong didn’t see any playing time, and for the first time since last August, Kim Jin Su seems to have his place in the Hoffenheim XI threatened with the arrival of German U21 talent Jeremy Toljan.

Koo is finally starting to play like his old self – his past couple games for Augsburg have all consistently been very good. I would say the same for Hong Jeong Ho but he was at fault for a goal vs Hoffenheim and arguably at fault for one of the conceded goals vs. Monchengladbach on Wednesday. Ji Dong Won has actually been surprisingly solid every time he plays, but he’s just incredibly unlucky in front of goal. Everything is going well for Ji Dong Won, except for 2 very important things: consistent playing time and goals.

Augsburg is awesome, but Crystal Palace still isn’t awesome. What does Lee Chung Yong have to do to get playing time? Is he just not good enough? Does Pardew just not rate him? Reportedly Pardew favors big, physical players (Bolasie, Gayle, arguably Zaha) over smaller technical players like LCY, but to not even be on the bench is odd (albeit the bench was composed of only 5 players suggesting potential injuries).

Meanwhile, Suk Hyun Jun is already at 5 goals and 4 assists for Vitoria de Setubal… I’ve never seen a KPA score 5 goals by the time October rolls around… this is certainly a new record!

As for Son Heung Min, he may not have scored but he had a decent game. Instead of the classic “lose the ball by making poor decisions” SHM, we saw a tactically refined, “I know what I’m doing” SHM. Check out the difference:

  1. Would hate to see Augsburg get relegated. Hong Jeong Ho was always been a terrible player for us, so it was only a matter of time before he screwed things up. Ji Dong Won? What a liability. Go score goals bitch!
