Bundesliga KPA update

With the start of new season just around the corner, I will do a brief update/preview of each KPAs in Germany.

Bayer Leverkusen

Son Heung Min – 3 friendly appearance with 1 assist (earned a penalty against Lokomotiv Moscow)
Ryu Seung Woo – 4 friendly appearance, 2 goals, and 1 red card [click here for Ryu’s 2nd goal on Sunday -fast forward to 1:56 as Kruse through ball finds Ryu].

Leverkusen tactical preview – Roger Schmidt, lured away from Red Bull Salzburg, is the new manager appointed after disappointing 2nd half in 2013/2014 season. Known for taking gegenpressing to new level, 4-4-2/4-2-2-2 is the base formation before it becomes chaotic with constant interchange and consequential collective pressing.

Next friendly: Leverkusen vs FC Seoul  – Wed July 30 at 7pm Korea Time / 6am US EST

Borussia Dortmund

Ji Dong Won – 2 friendly appearance as CAM

Next friendly: Dortmund vs Chievo Verona

>Tavern Owner interjecting – in the 2 appearances so far for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Ji has gotten off a few quality shots, came close to scoring with 1 goal called back for offsides.

Mainz

Koo Ja Cheol – 2 friendly appearance, 1 goal (penalty)
Park Joo Ho – 2 friendly appearance as LB

Mainz tactical preview – Mainz quickly appointed Kasper Hjulmand once Thomas Tuchel resigned 1 year early from his contract. Known to respect Klopp and Pep Guardiola, he has used 4-2-3-1 formation with intelligent possession being key to his system.

Next match: Mainz 05 vs Asteras Tripolis 3rd round Europa League Qualifier

Augsburg

Hong Jeong Ho – Nursing an injury picked up from World Cup

Hoffenheim

Kim Jin Su – Newcomer to Bundesliga this season from Albirex Niigata, he is expected to stabilize a leaky defense of 1899 Hoffenheim.

Bundesliga 2 (Season kicks off Aug. 1st)

Park Jung Bin – Unknown to most, he’s a 20 year old winger for Karslruher SC. Made his Bundesliga debut as 18 year old with SPVGG Greuther Furth (on loan from Wolfsburg), he has since transferred to Karslruher SC for play time. Largely ignored in his 1st season, he has started brightly this pre-season with 2 goals and featured in all friendlies.

Next match: KSC vs FC Union Berlin

Choi Kyoung Rok – 19 year old forward with FC St Pauli. Promoted to 1st team after impressive display with FC St Pauli U-19 in Regionalliga Nord/Nordost. Expected to be 3/4th choice FW off the bench, he is a lively player with great work rate. 3 goals and 1 assist in friendlies

Next match: FC St Pauli vs Ingolstadt

U-23/II Players

Roan Kwon – 19 year old forward for Hamburg SV II
Kim Dong Su – 19 year old CB for Hamburg SV II
Kim Jin Su – 19 year old CAM/Winger for FC Augsburg II

  1. Super! I’m psyched about Park Jung-Bin and Choi Kyoung-Rok making some waves in preseason. Hope the rest of the u23’s also impress. Does anyone know if the assertion on BSK is correct, that Ryu’s red card yesterday means he’s banned for 3 friendlies -including the FC Seoul match? I find that very harsh if that’s the case…

  2. I was really surprised when Kim Shin Wook was voted 49th in Goal.com’s top 50 players. I’m hoping that he can make a move to Bundesliga.
